Recently In Pictures, 7/6/09-7/25/09

I mentioned that I moved, and that I didn't have an Internet connection. Now that it's three weeks later, I do. Hopefully, I'll be back to my regularly scheduled programming of gratuitous uploading.

The Feelies Reissues

It's some reissue madness of token indie rock bands. The Feelies are reissuing Crazy Rhythms and The Good Earth, their two first albums, on vinyl. I will buy these, because I like the Feelies more than I like Galaxie 500 (even though Only Life is still my favorite of their albums), and these come out on my birthday. That would be September 8.

Crazy Rhythms, 1980 / Download
Notable Tracks: "Boy With the Perpetual Nervousness," "Original Love," "Crazy Rhythms."

The Good Earth, 1986 / Download
Notable Tracks: "Slipping (Into Something)," "Let's Go," "Tomorrow Today."

Galaxie 500 Reissues

Galaxie 500's three full-length albums are being reissued on vinyl. Here you go. Now, go buy the boxed set or whatever it is that gets you a free t-shirt.

Today, 1988 / Download
Notable Tracks: "Parking Lot," "Tugboat," King of Spain."

On Fire, 1989 / Download
Notable Tracks: "Snowstorm," "Decomposing Trees," "Leaving the Planet."

Animal Collective - "Feels"

Feels, 2005 / Download

NPR Aggregation

NPR gets a few important people (Carrie Brownstein from Monitor Mix, NPR's All Songs Considered producer Robin Hilton, and Song of the Day editor Stephen Thompson) together to chat about whether or not record labels, uh, matter. I'm posting this so I can remember to listen to it later--it's available here.

NPR will also be broadcasting the Sonic Youth show from DC's 9:30 Club tonight. I'll be there, but if you won't, you can listen to that here, starting around 10PM.

Playing House

I recently moved, so posts are going to be slow for awhile. I've got way too many pieces of Ikea furniture to put together, and, to top it off, the owners didn't clean properly after they refinished the floors. There's wood varnish dust everywhere.

Anyway, once I get everything straightened out over here--and once my roommate properly sets up our Internet so that I don't have to keep jacking someone else's connection--posting will resume as usual.

PS: I've been searching for a leak of the new Jay Reatard album to share, but it doesn't seem to be anywhere. My boyfriend picked up a copy on vinyl at his show the other night, but it doesn't actually release until next month. So, go see Jay Reatard, and buy his new album, if you're into that sort of thing.

Travis Morrison to Retire?

I'm choosing not to believe it.

Galaxie 500 - "This Is Our Music"

Like the Jason Anderson album below, this album also has a song about the Fourth of July! This is also probably my favorite Galaxie 500 album, even though Today and On Fire are arguably way better. In related Galaxie 500 news, all three of their full-lengths have been reissued, so if you're into that sort of thing, go find them. Or just listen to this. Whatever.

This Is Our Music, 1990 / Download

Notable Tracks: "Listen, the Snow is Falling," "Fourth of July." / RIYL (via Last.fm): Chapterhouse, My Bloody Valentine, Pale Saints, Spaceman 3, Slowdive.

Jason Anderson - "The Hopeful and the Unafraid"

This album has a song about the Fourth of July on it. In celebration of the forthcoming holiday, I figured I'd post it. Also, even though Jason Anderson is on K Records, this album is basically Bruce Springsteen for 2000 and beyond. Don't question it.

The Hopeful and the Unafraid, 2008 / Download

Notable Tracks: "July 4, 2004," "El Paso," "This Will Never Be Our Town." / RIYL (via Last.fm): Paul Baribeau, Deer Tick, the Halo Benders, Samamidon, Thanksgiving.

The Feelies - "Only Life"

Only Life, 1998 / Download

Notable Tracks: "Only Life," "Deep Fascination," "What Goes On." / RIYL (via Last.fm): The Clean, the Dream Syndicate, the Soft Boys, Swell Maps, Television Personalities.
